feeding Therapy

What We Do

we have peaceful, engaging, happy experiences with food

Food is a part of all of our big moments. First date, birthday dinner at grandma's, catching up with a friend. We connect and reconnect around food. Feeding our children is the first way we care for them. It is scary and isolating when your child is struggling to eat. That's where Square One OT comes in.

There are many reasons a child may be struggling to eat. Square One OT takes an individualized look at your child and their specific challenges. Whatever we need to work on, every experience will be set to the  pace and comfort of your child to build skills and confidence for successful eating.

Therapy should change your life.

Successful feeding (breast, bottle, or spoon) requires the right help at the right time. Improvements in how your child is feeding does not belong in a long list of goals–it is THE goal. A singular focus produces specialized care with a greater opportunity to understand, address, and resolve issues.

If your child could, they would.

Feeding challenges always tell us there is a deeper issue at play, whether that is a difference in mouth structure, the way they use their mouth muscles, the way they experience food (texture, smell, taste), or overall strength and coordination. Addressing the cause of your child’s struggles is the only way to improve their comfort and ability for a lasting positive relationship with eating.

Humans, especially children, learn when they feel safe and are having fun.

For children with feeding challenges, eating can be a fearful and even traumatic experience. Eating is a natural drive--if it is being avoided, the intensity of that experience must be overwhelming. Effective feeding therapy involves a commitment to no forcing, no tricking, and no crying. Growth happens with fun and successful interactions with food in a private, quiet, and inviting environment.

The most important expert in your child’s life is you.

You are your child’s most important ally as they navigate food learning. That is why every feeding session involves you. Every session will target your child’s specific challenges AND leave you empowered to grow your child’s skills and confidence with food.
